Having worried about what the grey “thingy” was for, I have finally got a shot of it in action. They have been cleaning some of the buoys and use the crane to lift them off the Port work boat.

Spirit Yacht’s nice newcomer
They fitted a mast to this one last week. Here it is taking its first shakedown cruise.
I missed posting this the other evening. This is what I used to call a YABS – Yet Another Boring Sunset. Still, it is pretty.
It’s fishing time
Not quite what you thought.
This fishing boat has been tying up outside for the last few weeks. It comes in, unloads its fish – loads up with ice and goes out again. As it moors where Suntis goes, it has to do a quick double shuffle to get out of the way when necessary.
Let’s have a party
What better way to spend a Saturday evening than partying on Victor. The beautifully maintained Thames Barge was off out to the Orwell Estuary in the early evening with music playing and a crowd of people enjoying themselves. No doubt, they will return around 10-ish, still having a good time.
Oh,by the way, Suntis is currently moving through the Kiel Canal on its way to Varberg. The turnaround time in the summer seems to be quicker than in the winter – no doubt they sell more structural wood to the building trade.
Trimilea on the move
Trimilea is a Dunkirk Little Ship. She is the old Ramsgate Lifeboat Prudential. The Association web site has the following quote
“”I cannot see who you are. Are you a naval party?”
“No Sir, we are men of the crew of the Ramsgate life-boat”.
“Thank you and thank God for such good men as you have on this night proved to be. There is a party of fifty Highlanders coming next.”
She normally lives opposite us but here she is under way.
She has been very nicely refurbished and is a credit to David and his partner.
Well, it’s not raining
In fact, it is a beautiful day. We have just had a coffee down next to the Customs House sitting in the sunshine. It is a hard life!
He keeps a watch over us
This cormorant acts like a sentinel on the waterfront. He sits on the top of the left hand crane (from our perspective) almost every night. My big lens can just about cope with this but, unfortunately, the shot is always going to be against the sun – unless the sun starts to sink in the east for a change!
One day, I might just catch him with his wings extended.

30/7/13 It’s raining
Here is a shot of Suntis being unloaded in the rain!
Back again – sort of
Well, I am trying to get this thing back again. Having got my own health issues under control and getting a lot of other stuff tidied up, I have decided to have another go at a blog from the Ipswich Waterfront. This time it is going to be a lot simpler.
No web cams, no weather stations, no extended chat – just photos and captions. Oh, and not every day, just when there is something interesting to show. Also, I do not intend to restrict this to just the waterfront. I am regarding it as a photographic blog of my life and interest, which means that you will get to see where else we go that provides an interesting image plus regular updates on my hobbies.
I expect to be taking and using more images than I would want to post here so i shall be regularly linking to a new Flickr photo site to back up this blog.
It should be interesting. Let me know what you think as we go along.
